Live Wedding Painting FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What kind of paint do I use?
I usually paint with high quality acrylic paint on gallery wrapped canvas. Oil paint is also available upon request.
  • What do I need to secure my date?
Once we have determined if I am available for your date, we will have a consultation via phone or email, to discuss your wedding and what you are looking for in your painting. After that I will provide you with a customized quote with different options to choose from. Once you have decided I will send you a proposal that includes a 25% deposit and a contract. Once that is sign and paid, you will be on my calendar!
  • Do you require a deposit?
Yes! I require a 25% deposit for all of my live wedding paintings, watercolor guest portraits, and commission paintings.
  • What does the process look like for guest portraits?
About a month before your wedding we will have a quick phone call or email to go over all of the details of your day. On the day of the wedding, I arrive about 45 minutes before I will begin painting to setup. I do require a table from your venue to use if possible. During the hours that I am painting, guest will come up to my table, sign their name on my list, and then have their photo taken. They can then go back to partying! It takes me 5-10 minuets to paint each couple, and once they are completed I set them out on display and then guests can come back anytime to pick them up!
  • What does the live wedding painting process look like?
After you are booked, it is time to start thinking about all of the details that you want in your painting! What scene you want painted, who you want included, etc. About a month before your wedding I will send you a quick questionnaire, and we will schedule a phone call to finalize all of the details of your painting and your day! On the day of the wedding, I arrive at your venue 2-3 hours before your ceremony start to begin painting in the background. I try my best to grab a reference photo during that time in the wedding (first kiss first dance...) but if I am not able to, I may pull you aside to snap a quick photo reference. After that I paint all throughout your ceremony and reception, and then take the painting back to my studio to complete. My turnaround time to mail it back to you is between 8-10 weeks.
  • Do you travel?
Yes! I do charge a travel fee, but I would love to travel to you for your wedding!
  • What does your setup look like, and do you need anything from the venue?
I bring all of my supplies with me! I have an easel, a case with my painting supplies, and a rug for underneath my easel. My setup requires about a 4 ft x 4 ft space. All I need from your venue is a place to paint!
  • You are booked on my wedding date, can you paint from a photograph?
Yes absolutely! I would love to paint your wedding from your favorite wedding photos! You can find more information on that here:
  • What is the turnaround time?
Generally, it takes between 8-10 weeks to complete touchups, let the paint completely dry, add varnish and deliver it to the client!
  • Do you offer payment plans?
Yes! I generally require a 25% deposit with the remaining balance due one week before your wedding date. If you need a different payment structure, just let me know and we can figure it out!
  • Are you LGBTQIA+ friendly?
Yes, absolutely! I would be honored to paint at your wedding!
